Shining Bright Hunter's Capstone
Project type
Client Video Project for OU Fine Arts - Gaylord Hall Productions
Date
March 2025
Location
Norman, Oklahoma
While working for Gaylord Hall Production, a major responsibility involved working closely with the University of Oklahoma Fine Arts department to recruit prospective students. We worked on a feature profile video story on OU student choreographer Hunter Sheehan and lighting director Madeline Lewis and their journey working together on Hunter’s capstone project choreographing a dance performance with a central theme of jewels in a jewel box. Hunter dedicates each section to notable figures in dance history that he has taken inspiration from. The Emeralds section is dedicated to Paul Taylor. The Rubies section is dedicated to Alvin Ailey, and the Diamonds section is dedicated to Martha Graham. The last section, Sapphires, is a reflection of Hunter’s own unique choreography style.
During the preproduction process, we communicated with Hunter and Madeline to arrange a pre-interview conversation, and based on our conversation, we worked together to develop an outlined script and potential interview questions for the video story. For this project, I helped on set with setting up lights, setting up a boom stand for audio, and setting up Sony FS7 and FS5 cameras with tripods for Hunter and Madeline’s interviews. During both interviews, I timed the interviews, taking notes of specific times that editors could use in the final cut. B-roll included original footage from Hunter’s rehearsals, dress rehearsal, and the recital performance.
