For my Issues and Ethics in Electronic Media class, I worked on a project based on chapter six of Douglas Rushkoff’s book, Program or Be Programmed. Chapter six dives deep into analyzing the relationship between identity and media, more specifically how our identity is altered with the presence of digital media. Online, people have the ability to present themselves to appear much differently, as compared to how they interact in a face to face setting. Our short film follows a news anchor who must do his job as a reporter and tell an emotionally-heavy story to the audience watching the news at home, but viewers in the story are unaware that he has a connection deeper than what he is letting on. This project allowed me to strengthen my narrative film production skills, as we worked to adapt a book chapter into a short film.
